Killing of RIC District Inspector Gilbert Norman Potter

Killing of RIC District Inspector Gilbert Norman Potter by the IRA on 27 April 1921 in retaliation for the execution by the British authorities of Thomas Traynor in Mountjoy Prison on 25 April 1921. Potter had been captured by the IRA following an IRA attack on British forces at Garrymore, Clogheen, County Tipperary on 23 April. The IRA unit had managed to hold D. I. Potter in their custody despite themselves coming under attack from British forces shortly after leaving the scene of the ambush at Garrymore. Gilbert Potter was then brought to Aughavanlomaun where, according to the file, he appears to have briefly escaped from his captors. Exact location of Potter's killing unclear from the file.
