Cross Barry Ambush

On 19 March 1921 a large force of British military and police converged on Ballymurphy, County Cork in a concerted attack on 3 Cork Brigade Active Service Unit. As part of a successful effort to fight their way out of the encirclement the IRA ambushed part of the British forces at Cross Barry. Accounts of casualty figures vary for both sides but it would appear that 9 British soldiers and 1 RIC were killed and a number wounded. 2 IRA also appear to have been killed either at Cross Barry or elsewhere during the British advance on the area.
