South Roscommon Brigade -1 Western Division
This brigade in the formation listed here existed only at the first critical date 11 July 1921 and the data is for that period only. By the time of the second critical date of 1 July 1922 the 1 Battalion had been transferred to the 2 Battalion, Castlerea Brigade, 2 Western Division and the 2 Battalion had been transferred to the 3 Battalion, Castlerea Brigade, 2 Western Division. The 3 Battalion (less B, D, and E companies which ceased to exist) had been transferred to the 3 Battalion, South Roscommon Brigade, 2 Western Division. Of the 4 Battalion, A,B,C,D, and E companies had been transferred to the 4 Battalion, South Roscommon Brigade, 2 Western Division; G Company had been transferred to the 5 Battalion and H Company to the 2 Battalion, South Roscommon Brigade, 2 Western Division. The data for each brigade is given in the correct sequence for the appropriate Division. 1 Battalion: Unit strength on 11 July 1921 was 141 all ranks. The companies of the 1 Battalion were located as follows: Loughglynn, Ballinagar, Moore, Cloonbonniffe, Trien, Cloonfad, Castlerea, Ballinlough and Gorthaganny. 2 Battalion: Unit strength on 11 July 1921 was 160 all ranks. The companies of the 2 Battalion were located as follows: Cloverhill, Ballinahiglish, Castleplunket, Fuerty, Donamon and Ballintubber. 3 Battalion: Unit strength on 11 July 1921 was 217 all ranks. The companies of the 3 Battalion were located as follows: Athleague, Kilbride, Kilteeran, Cloontuskert, Roscommon and Kilgefin. 4 Battalion: Unit strength on 11 July 1921 was 271 all ranks. The companies of the 4 Battalion were located as follows: Knockcroghery, St. John’s, Rahara, Curraghboy, Lisvara, Dysart, Kiltoom and Ballygar.
