7 Brigade – 1 Eastern Division
The 7 Brigade was formed by 1 July 1922 and then consisted of seven battalions and an Active Service Unit. All data given below for the battalions (other than the 2 North Kildare Battalion) is for the date 1 July 1922. The companies of the 2 (North Kildare) Battalion were located as follows: Athgarvan, Ballymore Eustace, Hollywood, Kill, Naas, Newbridge, Prosperous, Robertstown, Two Mile House, Allen, Allenwood, Clane, Eadestown, Clongorey, and Lewistown.
1 Battalion: Unit strength on 1 July 1922 was 84. The companies of the 1 Battalion were located as follows: Naas, Kill, Kilteel, Rathmore and Straffan.
2 Battalion: Unit strength on 1 July 1922 was 48. The companies of the 2 Battalion were located as follows: Newbridge, Rathbride, Clongorey and Athgarvan.
3 Battalion: Unit strength on 1 July 1922 was 21. The companies of the 3 Battalion were located as follows: Hollywood.
4 Battalion: Unit strength on 1 July 1922 was 35. The companies of the 4 Battalion were located as follows: Prosperous, Robertstown, Blackwood, Kilmeague, Newtown and Donore.
5 Battalion: Unit strength on 1 July 1922 was 40. The companies of the 5 Battalion were located as follows: Rathangan, Kilcumber, Cushina, Clonbulloge and Brackna.
6 Battalion: Unit strength on 1 July 1922 was 56.The companies of the 6 Battalion were located as follows: Kildare, Kilcullen, Maddenstown, Ballysax and Suncroft.
7 Battalion: Unit strength on 1 July 1922 was 21. The companies of the 7 Battalion were located as follows: Carbury.
An Active Service Unit was effective with the 2 (North Kildare) Battalion in June 1921 with a total overall strength of 18 all ranks. Personnel were attached to the ASU from the battalions of the brigade.
