5 East Mayo Brigade – 3 Western Division
The 5 (East Mayo) Brigade – in the unit formation set out here – was not formed by the first critical date 11 July 1921 and all data is for the period 1 July 1922 only. The brigade in the form in which it existed on 11 July 1921 was part of the Mayo East Brigade, 2 Western Division.
1 Battalion: Unit strength on 1 July 1922 was 520 all ranks. The companies of the 1st. Battalion were located as follows: Swinford, Barnalyra, Charlestown, Tumgesh, Killasser, Meelick, and Tullinacurra.
2 Battalion: Unit strength on 1 July 1922 was 470 all ranks. The companies of the 2 Battalion were located as follows: Carracastle, Derrynacarta, Rooskey, Lavey, Cloontia, Brusna, and Glann.
3 Battalion: Unit strength on 1 July 1922 was 277 all ranks. The companies of the 3 Battalion were located as follows: Kiltimagh & Freenereragh & Gloira, Bohola, Ballinamore, Kilkelly, and Aghalestia.
4 Battalion: Unit strength on 1 July 1922 was 414 all ranks. The companies of the 4 Battalion were located as follows: Ballaghaderreen, Aughalestia, Crennane, Tibohine, Sinolane, Liscaul, and Kilmovee.
