1 North Louth Brigade – 4 Northern Division
1 Battalion: Unit strength on 11 July 1921 was 511 all ranks, and the strength on 1 July 1922 was 317 all ranks. At the time of the first critical date this unit was known as the ‘North Louth Battalion’ and became designated as the 1 Battalion, 1 Brigade by the second critical date. The companies of the 1st Battalion were located as follows: Dundalk, Omeath, Cooley, Ravensdale, Dromintee, Ballsmill, Blackrock, Lordship, Dromiskin and Louth.
2 Battalion: This unit was not formed until after 11 July 1921. The strength on 1 July 1922 was 435 all ranks. The companies of the 2 Battalion were located as follows: Dundalk, Kilcurry, Dromintee, Ravensdale, Lordship and Cooley.
3 Battalion: Unit strength on 11 July 1921 was 386 all ranks and the strength on 1 July 1922 was 465 all ranks. The companies of the 3 Battalion were located as follows: Meigh, Camlough, Corrinshego, Bessbrook, Cloughoge, Omeath, Mullabawn and Crossmaglen.
4 Battalion: Unit strength on 11 July 1921 was 138 all ranks and the strength on 1 July 1922 was 220 all ranks. The companies of the 4 Battalion were located as follows: Ballymoyer, Cullyhanna, Claddy, Poyntzpass and Belleeks.
